We have approximately 1,500 students in our middle school building. We are a Title I school in rural IL. For the size of our building we only have three PE teachers. Each class has PE two times a week for 40 minutes. As teachers, our goal is to make sure our students obtain the most physical activity within their class period as well as having fun and being safe. At times, we have "doubles". In a "double" class period, we may have two different classes at one time. For example, during one class period, we may have a fourth grade class combined with a sixth grade class. Our class total for 40 minutes may be around 50 students. We have to make sure we have not only enough equipment for the large class size but that it is also safe for our students to use during class. On Fridays, we see approximately 950 students! Safety is a huge concern for us.
