Music EQ.9 Explore the role of music and dance in daily life.
When students had to participate in Distance Learning, it became very obvious how important Specials/Extra-Curricular Classes are. As a Specialist, it was very apparent that I was going to have to face a very difficult challenge with teaching a subject area that is largely hands-on. Working with other Specialists across different subject areas allowed everyone to get a perspective of how important it was going to be to really emphasize the need and the relevance of our teaching upon returning to face-to-fact education. It was easy to see how students became less interested in their Specials simply because they were not able to be hands-on with the activities.
Now that students are back in the buildings, it is more important than ever to support the curriculum with fun and engaging lessons and activities for them. Building back their interest and participation in the Specials is something that will help fill many emotional needs that students are experiencing right now. Music soothes the soul, and if their attendance in Music brings them joy, calmness, and confidence, then I want to try and provide that to the best of my ability.
The items that I selected for my project will help develop a welcoming musical environment for my students. Since I am new to this particular Specialist role, I would like to take the opportunity to make it a fun and engaging experience for all of my students. From the moment they enter the room, to the moment leave, I want them to be able to escape the stresses and pressures of their day to day work and simply have fun!
