Sensory play is an extremely important part of a child's development. Using the materials I have requested, I plan to provide children opportunities to actively use their 5 senses as they explore and learn each day. These kinds of learning opportunities are crucial to the development of the brain as they help to build nerve connections in the brain's pathways.
I am planning on setting up the sensory pathway decals in our room to create a space for my students to use their whole bodies to creatively build their nerve connections that will enable them to complete complex and multi-stage tasks. They will be able to use this space when their bodies need to move in order to focus, during their free choice time, and during our small group/center rotations time.
The other manipulatives that I have requested will give my students a hands-on and tactile approach to learning and mastering the alphabet, sight words, basic spelling skills, and basic geometry standards. They will be used during small group/center rotation time for independent skill-building activity.
