The I Survived and New Start Suspense chapter series are high interest, low readability books. Written at first and second grade levels, they're about topics that interest older students. Having access to books on their level that don't look like "baby" books will encourage my students to read.
To go from reluctant to enthusiastic readers, my students need successful reading experiences. They will use these books at home and at school. We will discuss them in literature circles, predict events in next chapters, identify the main idea and character traits, search for text evidence, and write our own alternate endings. Thank you for helping my students become independent readers!
