I want to help my students succeed in elementary school. Many students come wanting to learn but are frustrated, because they have difficulty concentrating. Today's students are more easily distracted due to our increasing world of technology. Some have ADHD or other special needs. Some are just active.
I want my classroom to be an inviting place where children feel welcomed and comfortable. Children weren't meant to sit six hours a day in hard, plastic chairs. Standing desks with wiggle-type footrests will assist my more active students, by allowing them to move and work at the same time.
The other seating options like the seat cushions and bendable back seats will let students sit more comfortably while collaborating or working alone. I have brought in some furniture from home--a futon and some backrest pillows. Already I have noticed a decrease in off-task behaviors, cooperation, and an increased love of learning. My students love reading while seated on these alternatives to chairs!
