This school year is starting so differently than normal and I want my students to feel comforted and safe being in the classroom. Stuffed animals create comfort for young children. When they come in for orientation before the first day of school with their parent they will receive the book, "The Night Before First Grade" to read at home with their families and they will "adopt" a stuffed animal. This stuffed animal will stay at school in their work space and will be only theirs. It will help create comfort and ease any nervousness they may be feeling. Also, since students will not be able to physically hug each other throughout the day they will be able to hug their stuffed animal and be comforted. When their brains are stressed or anxious, it is harder for them to take in new information and learn. I believe that having their little stuffed animal for security will help them be better learners and happier children.
