Students of all backgrounds benefit from reading about individuals whose experiences are different from (and similar to) their own.
Shouldn鈥檛 the books we read help us to understand the world in which we live?
Always Running is an award-winning and bestselling memoir about a young Chicano (Luis J. Rodriguez) who survived the dangerous streets of East Los Angeles, and thereafter dedicated his adult life to community service and urban peace efforts. On October 9, 2014, Mr. Rodriguez was named the second Los Angeles Poet Laureate by Mayor Eric Garcetti. My students are begging to read this book!!!
Having enough books will mean that every student can hold a copy in his or her hands and follow along with the assigned reading. The copies will be shared throughout the English department so that numerous classes can experience this book. Our school district approved this book in October 2018. Unfortunately, we have no copies.
