Using a camera has opened the door for me to a whole new world of creativity just like the first time I picked up a paint brush and painted on a canvas. Photography is an amazing subject to learn. From the technical aspects to the artistic expression, taking photos builds memories. Not just a memory of the moment itself, but of the actual act of taking the photo. Holding the camera, making sure the settings are correct, holding the camera up and looking through the viewfinder, seeing a whole new world through the lens and finding something that captures your eye, pressing the button, hearing the sound of the shutter activating, and finally the anticipation of seeing the image you just captured is all part of the very special experience that is photography.
Students will learn both the art and the science behind taking photos and using a camera. This project will teach students the mechanics and science behind taking photos beginning with how a camera works including how images are captured. They will learn how to use a camera, how the settings work (shutter speed, aperture, ISO), and how to frame a photo. Students will learn the art of photography and how to create artistic images that capture light, shadow, and finally how to edit their images. Students will create a display of photographic images that highlight our school and learning environment.
