This year, we will be reading Island of Blue Dolphins for one of our class novel readings. With this novel, students will be meeting not only our ELA standards and expectations, but also our History and Social Studies standards, as they learn about American Indians. Themes, symbols, and beautiful figurative language are just a small taste of what this book is full of! As we have many ELL students in our classroom, my students needs to not only hear the text be read allowed, but also have their own physical copy they can hold and read along with. In this way, they can participate with finding evidence from the text on their own, and be fully engaged! I hope to reuse these book for each coming year!
