My students love Play-doh and art projects. They are great hands-on materials that require my students to use their fine motor skills. These activities promote speech and language, turn taking and socialization with my students. Fine motor activities bring joy to my students.
Each week we create an alphabet character to promote alphabetical and phonemic awareness through the kinesthetic process of creating the character. Incorporating art into literacy is a wonderful way to activate both sides of the brain to enhance learning.
By creating integrated multi subject art projects students will be able to create connections to increase their ability to recall what they have learned. Children learn by doing. When creating art you are using your senses, oral language, small muscles, spatial skills and social skills. Do you remember that first project that your mom hung on the refrigerator? Help my students create that memory.
