Although people tend to think exercise is just good for the body, there are many benefits for the brain. The brain is stimulated and gives rewards such as a boost to mood when the heart and lungs are invigorated. There are many links between the reduction of stress and exercise, just as there are links between stress and drug abuse.
Our school finds it鈥檚 home in a very small community where depression and a lack of resources promote the relationship with substance abuse as a self medication. Research shows that physical fitness is excellent for the mind and body, regardless of who you are, how old you are. Building a regular exercise practice can reduce the likelihood that a child will develop a range of ailments in their lifetime, again leading to medication.
Our goal is to reduce the need for medications and drug abuse by creating a PE program that promotes physical fitness habits, which will also boost not only physical health but self-confidence, and influence in the way they interact with their environment and other people, and how they respond to stress and anxiety.
We have plenty of equipment for games, however, our school needs a lot of fitness equipment. This donation is a great start that can be used for all our students, grades K-12. It will also be available for potentially making a before or after school fitness club, and will be available for our sports teams.
