With these force plate probes we will be able to look at contact forces and observe Newton's third law. We will record the interactive forces on both probes during collisions between two people or carts with the plates attached. They will quickly see why it is better to be in the massive truck, rather that the small car, when a collision occurs by investigating the forces involved. They can then go on to try different types of collisions and look at the impact forces recorded over time.
The students will then be able to test and brainstorm ideas of how to create artificial gravity. They will do this by investigating how their apparent weight changes when they accelerate in an elevator while standing on the plates.
