Our 4th-grade teaching team was looking for a way to engage our learners in reading when we came across a free online curriculum called Bookworms that uses books (yes, like real books in kids hands). We tried this for a year without having all the materials- we begged, borrowed, and used our own money to get what we could. It was amazing. The kids loved the books and learned more than we have ever had a group learning.
Students were making connections, partner reading with peers, doing in-depth comparisons between books, and enjoying reading again. Students of all the levels were begging to read or even reread the books that talked about diversity and history. We are asking to fund the purchase of all the books so that students can choral read without sharing books with three kids.
