I am fortunate to work with students from kindergarten to fifth grade every day which keeps things fun, fresh and exciting! It is difficult to find comfortable seating for students ranging from 5 to 11 years old. I have noticed some students fidgeting and leaning back (sometimes falling over) on the stools that I crafted out of crates, so I researched some alternative seating options.
Research has shown that when kids are given the opportunity to select seating that best fits their physical needs and preferences, they feel empowered and honored, which leads to increased engagement and motivation in the classroom. Students who need to wiggle are often embarrassed by the constant reminders to sit still, and these specially designed balance balls, wobble seat and bean bag chair will offer them safe and acceptable alternatives to traditional stationary chairs.
Offering students dynamic seating options has been found to contribute to increased learning outcomes, attention and behavior. I am in favor of anything that will help my students reach their potential, and I believe these seats will benefit both their minds and their bodies.
