My students are very eager to learn new skills and apply them. They are incredible smart and creative. We currently do not have enough materials for each student to work independently on their projects. There have been times I've had to put them in groups or assign distance learners an alternate paper assignment. My students have different styles of learning and I like to keep it fun and interesting with hands on projects after each unit.
These items will allow all of my students to be able to participate in these hand on lessons. For our sewing section the students will learn how to do 6 basic hand stitches and then will have to use these stitches to create a character pillow. Once we finish this unit, we will begin our interior design section and my students will create a bedroom inside of a shoe box using all of the design elements/principles learned in class. Finally, we will begin our culinary section of class; I divide the kids into 4 color coded groups and have them cook 2-3 meals in the week for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I make it into a fun competition per group similar to the show Master Chef kids edition. My goal for the entire class is for them to be able to learn skills that will help them become successful, independent and thriving adults.
