My students study the art and architecture of Medieval times. Studying the great Gothic cathedrals of Europe is enhanced when my students reproduce art from windows of several different famous cathedrals of Europe.
When learning about the Bayeux Tapestry, a cloth approximately 230 feet long that tells the story of William the Conqueror's invasion of England, my students weave potholders to better understand the work and effort that went into such a large tapestry. They also learn how to embroider and each student stitches his/her name onto a square of fabric that is then sewn into a class quilt.
