To help students understand place value and base-ten systems, I would like to have play coins and paper money for real-world problem solving activities. In each problem, students will have to correctly add, subtract, multiply and divide values to maximize the amount of materials they can "purchase," while staying within their budget.
I have many students who are visual and kinesthetic learners, so to help students better understand how to write and solve equations from hundredths value to the hundred thousands place, I would like to have students use paper money and coins as tangible manipulatives they can physically use and count.
In addition, I would like the place value cards and practice problems to help students visualize values that I can use for station activities.
