Students in my classroom to be active in their learning. We have whiteboards around the room (360掳) so that many students can work on the boards at once. Chairs that move and spin give students the opportunity to focus anywhere in the room easily at any given time. This allows whole class discussions to be built on varying student work any where in the room. Rolling chairs allow for quick group changes so that students can collaborate. Students also have the ability to raise and lower their chairs to comfortably work on different surfaces. Students get excited when they see that there is something different in their classrooms, that they have a choice, and that there is pride in their classroom. This helps them to feel more cared for, and thus more likely to be comfortable and flourish in their learning environment. Besides my math students, I host the STEM Club in my room, which is a student-run club that builds and celebrates interest in STEM majors and careers.
