Creating a working prototype for problem solving helps students make real world connections with their work. The curriculum is becoming increasing focused on problem solving. Being able to design solutions that have power will enable students to demonstrate how their design can help solve a particular problem. It also allows students to evaluate the efficiency of their machine, get feedback form peers, have a chance to make modifications, and retest their design. This last step is especially important in the learning process.
