Mindful Minutes: I start every day with every class by taking one minute and talking about the brain and the neuroscience behind being Mindful. I have observed how this helps students focus and calm down when they get to class. At first they think its a little weird, but they are actively attentive and interested in how they can use breathing practice to steady their minds and emotions.
The plastic chairs that we sit on are terrible (especially the ones that are breaking),and I would love to enhance the experience for them by having them sit on a cushion and be more grounded. I know that these students deserve to have a daily experience of restful attention and I believe it will help them be kinder to themselves and others by learning the mindful breathing practice.
