As a first year teacher, I am lucky to have inherited many supplies and resources from the previous classroom teacher. I inherited two swimming turtles that my returning students are incredibly attached to- three year olds Jack and Jill!
Not knowing much about turtles, I was astonished as I did some research by the resources turtles need to live humanely and healthily in a pet aquarium! Currently, my class turtles live in a ten gallon tank (about a sixth of a size my two grown turtles need!) with no basking area or UVB lamp. In order to ensure we are treating these turtles with love and care, I am asking for help to get them the aquarium and tools they need.
I know that my students will be excellent caregivers to these animals, as they have shown already in the first days of school. However, in order to provide these animals with the life they deserve, we need help. I teach my students to be advocates for themselves and others by using leadership and research skills to make informed decisions. As my students and I go through this learning journey together, we appreciate any way you can assist us in changing these animals life for the better.
