With this new welder, my students will get more time to practice before the local competition begins. This new machine is a multi-process welder that we can use for other types of materials and joint design. They can learn how to weld steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
Students from my Welding Technology 2 will use this welder to learn Gas Tungsten Arc Welding. Being skilled in different welding processes will make my students more valuable when interviewing at a job. TIG welding is a high demand skill that few individuals possess because of the amount of training and intense technique that it involves. Having this skill will push my students to be career-ready and ahead of other individuals who may only posses the basic welding certifications.
Apart from opening doors for all of my students, having a TIG machine in the classroom will help to encourage more young women to join the welding program. Currently, women make up only 5% of the field. The greater amount of processes offered will increase the chances of students finding a process that they feel comfortable and confident in.
