We live in a world that even our youngest students are on a go, go, go. Wouldn't it be nice for them to have a space in which they can slow down, take a step back, and breath? This project will help create an environment where children can practice mindfulness skills, and enhance a sense of wellness. Research has shown that practicing mindfulness can help children focus, feel calm, promote happiness, and can improve the executive function of the brain. Mindfulness can be seen as a vital tool for student learning.
This project will also allow me to create a setting that will enhance student self awareness by engaging with their five senses. When entering my classroom, they will be able to hear serene sounds, see calming images, along with other visuals that help them feel relaxed. touch comforting textures, and smell soothing aromas.
