A major concern for students with low reading scores is helping them find success. Step one to academic success is consistent class attendance.
To increase attendance for this extra reading class, I will give each student a ticket each day they attend to use the following day for a snack to enjoy during independent reading.
This small incentive will help build positive experiences with the class that will lead to better attendance. Once in class, I will teach students how to improve their reading skills through independent reading, small-group instruction, and regular assessment. More than that, I want to give students the gift of enjoying reading.
