Under new guidelines for Texas English students, middle-schoolers must choose texts on their own and read independently. Many of these students do not yet know that they want to do this.
Bringing in books in genres that they love will energize students to read on their own. Having a classroom library full of texts they want increases the likelihood they'll learn a love of reading that will extend beyond the classroom.
This project draws books, magazines, and plays from time-tested genres that students adore and puts them in a format that makes them appealing to the eye and later candy for the brain.
