I work at the high-needs elementary school in my district. A good amount of our friends have needs that need to be addressed in order for them to be successful in the classroom alongside their peers. Several students have difficulties with staying attentive during whole group and small group lessons, as well as staying on task during independent work time. Students in my classroom are allowed to choose where they sit during work time but currently only have the option to sit on the floor with clipboards, sit at the tables, sit under tables, etc. Having these flexible seating options would provide students with more choice for independent work time and would significantly improve their focus and work outcomes.
When students are given the opportunity to take charge in their learning, awesome things can happen. Students are more likely to stay engaged and succeed when they have the appropriate accommodations for their specific needs.
The wiggle stools will provide active or fidgety students with a stimulating experience, while helping them focus their attention during work time. These stools would make also be helpful for students who have a harder time sitting on the carpet. The regular stools would be used during independent work time but also for my small reading group lessons. The chairs that are currently at my teacher table are too small and the students have to sit on their knees in order to reach the table surface. This causes a lot of fidgeting and distraction when we are reading. By having the black stools, the students would be at a perfect height for good reading and attention posture, and it would reduce the fidgeting. Therefore, leading to more intentional, successful reading groups!
