I am starting from scratch this year as a first year special education teacher in not one but two schools on a one year contract. This means that I am doing a year long interview and have to apply again for my position in the spring. I also am a single parent with a special needs child and I have very little funds to spend to put into the two classes that I now have to run. this means that some how I need need to support my own own children at home an my school children. I want to give everything I can to all my kids and be the best in both my worlds but money doesn't grow on trees.
I picked the things I did because one of my classrooms is litterally bare and I have one poster at home to bring in that is of snoopy and he is sitting on his dog house and it has a quote about ordering pizza after midnight instead of finding worms. I love this poster and I got it when I graduated from high school from one of my most favorite teachers. I have kept it with me all these years and thought it was so fitting to bring it to my class. I also love snoopy and Charlie Brown because he is a misfit like some of my kids will be and it is inspirational to have these characters remind us that we are all kind of out of place so I am creating a quirky place for all us misfits to fit together to be a team to learn and grow. I just want to make a place that is special and nice.
