I intend to use books in my classroom library as extensions of lessons taught from the curriculum but also as a chance for students to have a choice in what they are interested in.
Since this is my first year teaching, I do not have tons of books for my classroom library. I want to incorporate authentic and culturally relevant texts in my collection but these are often hard to find. My school only teaches science and social studies for half a year and it is limited to 30 minutes a day. I think it is important to include texts that cover these topics to spark their interests and give them deeper resources on topics we may only cover briefly.
