Calculators are a huge part of the 7th and 8th grade required mathematics curriculum. Calculators are used during state standardized tests throughout the year, and the opportunity to practice using calculators before the test is imperative for student success on them. My students will dive into topics like scientific notation, functions, and proportional relationships, so calculators are vital to their success. A classroom set of calculators would allow me to extend my students' thinking as well as hone in on their computation and precision skills. Calculators are key tools that students must understand how to use, and these skills will go beyond my classroom to help them succeed in the real world.
