When kindergarten and first grade students come to music, they are excited to learn! They learn to use their singing voice, dance, and play instruments. Keeping a steady beat is essential to all of these activities. Many of the larger instruments in a music classroom are cumbersome for little hands. I want them to feel that music isn't too hard for them. With smaller hand drums, wood blocks, and egg shakers, younger students can feel free to keep the beat with the class and not worry about how they are going to hold or play the instrument. Successful moments build confidence and confident students take chances!
