My students need to practice their English as much as possible. We practice their listening skills by reading aloud and responding. We practice their reading skills using reading workshop in class and reading together. I am hoping to focus on their speaking and writing skills much more this year.
If they can't say it first, they will not be able to write it.
Right now, they are sitting in desks that keep them separated from each other. When I want them to have small group discussions, it takes forever to get the desks set up so they can work together. Also, I need to be able to circulate and listen in to make sure they are practicing good, academic English. With the desks pushed together, it is very difficult for me to get around to each group as the chairs are connected to the desktops. These take up a tremendous amount of room in the classroom and don't facilitate collaboration.
My students need these tables and chairs so that they can turn and talk to one another throughout the class. Discussion skills are essential for success in today's connected world. These tables and chairs will help me to integrate discussion activities and give my students a chance to master these incredibly important skills.
