I’m a brand new teacher who just finished a master’s degree and have done much tutoring in Title I schools. In my experience, incorporating exercise materials in the classroom helps normalize exercise for students who feel that aerobics are off-putting. In addition, having rugs to soften foot tappers and yoga cushions and bouncy balls to assuage fidgety students helps meet students’ diverse learning needs. I’m seeking donations to buy comfortable options for seating. Sitting on hard plastic chairs is just too uncomfortable to ask anyone to do! I would really love for students to continue to be physically active even during benchmarks and long STAAR tests. Bouncy ball seats and wobbly cushions would provide student a chance to engage their core while sitting. A rug would absorb sound from math manipulatives and feet-tappers and would also be a comfortable story time space.
