I am a first year teacher in a wonderful elementary school! I informed my students that I would be creating a "donor's choose" page for our class and they helped me create a list of items that could benefit our class and their learning.
Because I'm a first year teacher, there are a few resources that my students are in need of but are missing from our class. The most needed item is a library that fits the needs and interests of my students. I was placed in a former kindergarten room and the current library is much too young for my third graders. I have added more chapter books to our class library from free donation centers, but I would love to get more high-interest books that my students feel excited to read!
Third grade students are expected to complete tasks more independently than they have in previous grades and students in my class are motivated to create thoughtful and detailed work. However, students often struggle to focus because of noise levels. Currently students share 2 noise reduction earmuffs that I have purchased for the class and they are always in use. I would like to have more to share so that students who are sensitive to noise levels are able to focus more easily. Students identified this as an item that could benefit their learning.
A visual timer will help students develop skills needed to complete work independently, such as pacing themselves and understanding the structure and routine of the work day.
