Scope Magazine is the total package for reading students like mine. They often struggle with simply reading what's on the page, at the expense of the grasping the content. With a class set of magazines, I can offer whole or small group instruction with up-to-date materials that hit all the Language Arts standards and provide these reluctant readers with a variety of texts, subjects and interests. Scope also allows for easy differentiation so I can reach all students.
Half the battle is getting students to buy into the idea that reading is FUN. With magazines like this, the content is interesting, applicable and easy to work with. Students will be involved in discussions, writing and reading. They will be talking about Math, Science and Social Studies. They will be practicing reading, expanding vocabulary and building comprehension skills. Finally, the magazine allows me to achieve a great deal of guided practice within the short class periods that I have.
