Flexible seating has so many benefits for students as individual learners as well as the whole class community. It will allow my 2nd graders to have a choice and a voice in their learning. Having a choice and making decisions about where they will learn will help them do their best learning and work to their greatest potential. It will also help them learn skills about making good choices. Choosing where they learn will help them be more comfortable which is essential in motivating them and keeping them focused while learning.
I know that what works for one student may not work for another so providing my students with different seating options is crucial to their learning.
My classroom is an ICT (Integrated Co-Taught) where many of the kids have sensory issues and need sensory input. Whether it is a bean bag, a wobble stool, or a yoga ball the choice is theirs. These different seats will also help my kids get the sensory input they may need to help them focus.
