While our school was in hybrid learning this winter I introduced my technology students to Sphero robots. The reaction was incredible. We spend a lot of time coding during technology and having the robots available to give them hands-on coding experience was amazing! At the time we had only half of our students in class at one time and the number of robots we owned was sufficient. Now all of our students are back, which is amazing and exciting. And I would love to be able to continue to offer each student their own robot to program. This means we need another set.
I get asked almost weekly, "Mrs. Mason, when are we going to do robots again?" They are so engaged with this activity. They are alive with curiosity and joy and determination when they are using the Sphero Bots. And one thing I love about these robots is that they are so easily adjusted for differentiation in the classroom, from a simple driving dashboard to javascript coding abilities. They're really wonderful for all types of learners. And it's a bonus that they work with the students school Chromebooks and don't require additional hardware.
These robots will be used during the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade technology classes and will also be available for Kids Clubs and to classroom teachers. I'm looking forward to teaching my students further coding skills, and I can't wait to design some collaborative challenges using mazes, obstacle courses, ramps, races, puzzles, and more with these robots!
