It is difficult for student on the autism spectrum to focus and remain calm with too many distractions. Room dividers would take an open space, and compartmentalize the classroom into clear, visual work spaces. This would provide the students with a classroom that makes sense. We could have a clear, defined spaces for a whole group area, individual work areas, centers, a sensory area, etc.
Providing clear work areas promotes independence. Students will be able to learn the areas of the classroom and staff can lesson prompts during transitions to help students get where they need to be. Clear work areas will allow students the ability to navigate the classroom independently.
