Scholastic magazines are a great way to keep students informed and knowledgeable about current events, while incorporating critical reading skills. The magazines this year focus on a wide variety of issues that will spark student interest and give them a peak at the world around them (endangered animals, sports around the world, and science innovations ). Each of these issues will also help push tier two vocabulary, wrestle with concepts of author's purpose, and make inferences to names but a few skills.
Each week whole group we will explore the big topics and issues. Then as the week progresses the students will break out into small groups and pairs to dive into the articles, and work on the comprehension skills. Students will refer again and again to the text using text evidence to prove all their thinking.
