We absolutely love our daily carpet meetings! These magic meetings occur multiple times throughout the day! They allow us to personally connect to one another! They give us moments throughout the day to share a smile, a laugh, and eye contact! Our carpet is the spot where we discover new learning, play, sing new songs, learn new games, and most importantly develop new friendships! It allows us to have a designated spot where communication is modeled and encouraged! The spot where listening skills are taught and practiced! It is the place where oral language skills explode and children can freely share their victories and defeats! The carpet also provides a place for independent reading, rest, and center work. It is truly the hub of our classroom where our community of learners develop, grow, and thrive! The carpet we currently use is too small for our student鈥檚 growing bodies! They start out the year comfortable in their spot however quickly outgrow it by the time the second semester comes leading to overcrowding, fidgeting, and invasion of personal space. This takes the focus off of learning and community and places it on problem solving and fussy frustrations with one another! Our students would thrive from having a larger carpet that comfortably and adequately accommodates each of them from the very small to the very tall!
