I am requesting a computer for distance learning. I am a full-time teacher, teaching graphic design among other subjects, at a continuation high school in Elk Grove, CA. I would like to acquire a computer that can be used remotely for accessing Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Typically, at this late point in the year, my graphic design students would be designing posters and tee-shirts using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. With the move to remote education, that has been impossible. With your help, I could set up a computer that can be remotely shared by students to do these projects. My students are a very under-served and under-represented population in the world of education. Ninety-three percent of them receive free and reduced lunch. This statistic is from before the COVID-19 stay-at-home orders went in place, and now, with so many in our community losing jobs, this number will only grow more dire.
I cannot send a laptop to every student, but I can have my students access this computer remotely. To access Adobe Creative Suite from their district-provided Chromebooks. Since we have moved to distance learning, I have made my personal home computer available remotely to the students, but this is problematic for a number of reasons. Mainly, students cannot use the computer when I am actively using it. This, of course, is necessary for me much of the day since I now teach all my classes online and meet (remotely) with all my students. Having another computer will provide dramatically more time for students to work on their design projects and allow them the chance to learn some valuable skills.
