I want our students to have a sense of community and belonging in our classroom. Having a colorful, comfortable meeting place will get our students out of their desks and bring us closer which will foster more active listening, more engagement and more empathy for one another as we share ideas, hold conversations and work together as a whole group. In our classroom we are a team and a carpet meeting area will act like a team huddle where we can motivate each other, cheer, laugh, learn and listen to a lesson as a whole group then go off to do our independent work or small group work. It will be a place to be welcomed in the mornings and a place for final thoughts and goodbyes before they leave the classroom at the end of the day and go to whatever home life they face.
