"Reading is to the mind, what exercise is to the body." --Joseph Addison. The best way for students to become better readers is for them to read, read, read! They must have access to engaging literature that is fresh and relevant.
A great way to get students to exercise their minds is through a dynamic classroom library. As my classroom population changes, so does my classroom library. The donations to this project will allow me to update my library so that I can offer my incoming students high-interest, modern titles.
The novels on the Texas Library Association's Lone Star reading list are selected by public and school librarians with the intent to provide a variety of current books to encourage reading. Each year, students scramble to check these books out from our school library, leading quickly to a waiting list. Adding them to my classroom library will allow even more students to access these great books, which in turn will entice them to become voracious readers!
