My students are really great people, but they can struggle with reading and school in general. My campus is a Title 1 school, and many students lack the resources for basics like food and a number have special needs. I want them to have a classroom that is designed for them and can counteract the challenges they face. I especially want them to see that they are intelligent people that have a lot to give to the world. With a proper classroom library and tools for organization and learning, my students can get the reading practice that they desperately need and have a room suited to their needs.
One of the struggles for me has been to find books in Spanish for the students to read. They don't tend to read much, and a big part of this is the fact that it can be difficult to find books in their native language. If my students could read more, they would improve their vocabulary and knowledge in general because reading is necessary in every school subject as well as in life. I especially want them to read books that showcase their culture so that they can see themselves represented in text. This will help to validate them that much more.
Lastly I'm hoping to get help setting up my room so that it can work to my students' advantage. If we can have a well-organized room with learning tools, the school day will go that much better and I'll be able to better keep track of our progress throughout the year. Anything that you can supply will be much appreciated.
Help me to provide my students with the tools they need to succeed and become even more well-rounded, critical thinkers that can contribute positively to our world!
