If I am fully funded I believe flexible seating will allow my class to be a more student-centered classroom. The balance balls and wobble cushions will help better maintain focus and behavior, especially during our center time.
For flex seating to be successful in my class, it is very necessary to set up rules, procedures, and what flex seating does and does NOT look like. I will introduce each seat type weekly so students can practice and learn the correct way to use seats. This will also give me time to see if some students can or cannot use certain seats.
Looking back now, I can see my students switch from standing to sitting positions while working, this tells me first graders can tell what does and does not work for them. Overall flexible seating will help meet students needs and allow students feel more empowered by being able to make a choice on where they sit, choices are huge in first grade.
