Reading is essential to academic growth, especially in an English class. Students read "classic" novels as a part of their English curriculum, which is great for some, but for those who struggle it makes reading an even more daunting task. Many novels that are used in the everyday curriculum are older and can be difficult for students to relate to and understand.
Struggling readers need materials that are high-interest, relevant, and easy to understand.
By donating to our project, you will be providing my students with novels that reflect their everyday lives and spark interest. If they can find books out there that they enjoy, they will be much more apt to continue reading, leading to the development of their literacy skills.
