The materials selected for my project will expose, engage and grow the students love for reading. Reading may not be the fun subject but I feel the most important. Reading allows students to make connections to real life experiences, create new experiences and build their imagination. For some of my students it creates a sense of security.
The reading nook will be that place of comfort. A place where a good book will open up their minds and enrich their souls. The nook will grow vocabulary and give them a sense of pride. I often tell my students when you read, store a piece of information in that "place". The place where when others speak about something you can pull from that place and share what you have learned as well. It makes you feel "Proud when you engage in conversation with others about what you have learned.
I want to make sure I provide all my students that opportunity to make those connection. When they are able to make those connections from a text they are on the road to creating their own. The nook will be the place to build upon just that.
