"Fat Kid Rules the World" will teach our students about those who struggle with mental health issues and issues with body image. They'll also be exposed to punk rock, and how great is that! We'll learn more about mental health, which so many teens struggle with, listen to music, and maybe even write our own. "I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter" will teach our students about another culture, both as a child of Mexican descent but also about how daughters and sons relate with parents. We will explore different types of Latino communities, family relations, food, music, and more. It will also provide our Latino students with a way to share their stories, if they wish. Finally, "Station 11" will show our students that absolutely beauty of the written word. "Station 11" is a dystopian novel, which they love," but totally within the realm of possibility, which makes it all the more scary. However, the beauty with which the novel is written will show readers what is possible, as we begin to create our own attempt at writing a short story for publication.
