Flexible seating gives students the ability to pick a seating option that best helps them be successful in the classroom. In my classroom, during independent time my students are given the option to sit in different areas of the room to work. You may find some students sitting on the ground with a clipboard, sitting under the table, or even on a yoga ball. Allowing my students to find areas where they are comfortable has helped them greatly.
My students are able to focus more and are more motivated to work on the assignment when they know they can move to a different area that suits them. I have seen an amazing amount of growth in my students, not only academically, but behaviorally as well. By giving them the choice to sit where they would like they are engaged and because of this they are less disruptive in the classroom.
The items that I have selected will give them more seating options and will help my students be more successful and focused in the classroom. The stools will be used at my small group table to give those students some variety while working. The bean bags will provide comfort during reading time and are easily moved to different areas in the room if needed.
I have already seen tremendous growth by giving my students choice in their seating options and I am hoping to provide more options so that growth can continue!
