At our school, we promote a sense of community and belonging. To break bread with someone has long been considered a way to convey trust, comfort, and confidence in the relationship that is shared. A big way we promote community and caring for our peers at school is by encouraging our students to prepare community meals in their cooking class.
We eat, laugh, tell stories, and provide support for each other during these meals. Next year, our program will be moving from our existing building to a new building that will not have a stove. Cooking these meals not only provides my students with valuable life and community building skills, but it also allows them to bake dog treats that are donated to Wayside Waif's on field trips we take throughout the school year. Help me help my students keep this tradition alive with the purchase of a stove for our new school.
