My students are second graders who read at levels from Kindergarten through third grade. In small group I am able to work with them at their reading level to bring them up and above grade level. To do this, I need materials that are of high-interest that make them want to read more. As a new teacher, I have been developing my classroom library to match my students' taste. While shopping for new books is exciting, it is also a costly endeavor. Many of my students do not have books at home and rely on my classroom library books to develop crucial reading skills.
In small group, we work together as a reading team, and like any team we practice, practice, practice. These books will allow my students to read with me and other readers at their level to improve their reading skills. They will also be able to take these books home and continue applying those skills with their families.
